In addition, we’ll have a selection hyper-local goodies from Fresh Roots Urban Farm. Fresh Roots’ produce is grown in schoolyards right here in Vancouver (Van Tech and David Thompson Secondary Schools, to be exact). That means the footprint of this produce is much smaller than conventional as it travels less than 10km to get to our markets. You can taste the difference in their food!

My oh my do we have quite the harvest for our mobile markets this week. This week we will be featuring our first BC grapes and Washington Purple Potatoes

It is week 2 of celebrating the Daikon radish, a traditional veggie for many lunar New Year festivities. This week one of our lovely board members, Janet, has provided us with her recipe for Daikon cake, which will be available for tasting in our tasting kitchen at Orchard Park from 2pm to 4pm.

February is also our donate to the market month. A donation box will be available at each location, so feel free to give a little extra when you buy your veggies so that we can keep bringing the freshest veggies we can find to your door step.

Market Veggies – Jan 3

After a short break, the mobile markets are back in action for our first market in 2015! To start the year off with a bang we will have an abundance of fresh veggies available, including:

  • Bananas (South America and Organic)

    Feeling under the weather? Try an apple, ginger, lemon cider!  Ingredients: - 5 apples, cored - a 4" chunk of ginger root - 1 tsp of turmeric - 1/2 lemon, juiced Directions: 1) Juice apple, ginger and lemon (or use apple juice) 2) Heat apple/ginger juice, lemon juice and water over medium high heat, until boiling. 3) Add turmeric and stir. 4) Enjoy!

Fall is here and the mobile markets will be moving indoors, so make sure to look out for our signs. The fields from our local urban farm partner, Fresh Roots, are still working hard and as usual they who will be providing us with their amazing, delicious, fresh veggies this week.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner it’s a perfect time to slow down, reflect, and express gratitude for all that is amazing in our lives.
