The Copley Community Orchard is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 2nd at Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House. If you are not familiar with the orchard, it is located near the Nanaimo Skytrain Station, at Copley, Walker, and Vaness Streets – right in Kensington-Cedar Cottage! Membership to the orchard allows you to attend educational workshops on fruit tree care, play a role in the decision-making process for any changes to the program, and have a share of the fruit that is grown (berries this summer!).
If the idea of being able to pick fresh fruit like apples and blueberries within an urban environment excites you, get your membership at Copley’s AGM. Another special treat at the AGM this year is a talk by Michael Kluckner, a Vancouver historian, who will discuss the history of agriculture in the region.
The Copley Community Orchard is run by Environmental Youth Alliance, which has many wonderful programs for children and youth. If you have further questions about the AGM or the orchard itself, e-mail membership[at]copleycommunityorchard[dot]com.
